Dr. Mohammad Shukri is a Senior Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgery at Institut Kanser Negara Putrajaya and Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara. He serves as a senior member of the National Upper GI Surgery Fellowship Board, under the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Since 2011, Dr. Shukri has held the position of President of the Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Society of Malaysia (PENSMA) and is an executive board member of both the Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Society of Asia (PENSA) and ESPEN-PENSA. Dr. Shukri is actively involved in promoting Nutrition Therapy Teams throughout Malaysia and has been instrumental in training healthcare professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, dieticians, and nurses, in clinical nutrition. He developed the syllabus for basic and advanced privileging courses in nutrition therapy, which has been utilized over the past decade. Internationally, Dr. Shukri is recognized as a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) from the Asia Pacific region and participates in several consensus and guideline initiatives. These include the updated ESPEN Clinical Nutrition Guideline in Surgery 2025 (soon to be published), the Global Leadership Initiative in Malnutrition, and the Asia Home Parenteral Nutrition consensus. He has established a comprehensive centre for home enteral nutrition (EN) and parenteral nutrition (PN), providing essential nutritional support to patients who rely on it for survival. Additionally, he is renowned for his innovation of the naso-gastrojejunostomy tube, commonly referred to as Shukri’s Tube. Apart from his professional career, Dr. Shukri oversees a group of doctors and patients in health initiatives, particularly emphasizing physical exercise for patients with obesity. When he is not running or spending time at the gym, he frequently leads his team on hiking trails.
