Prof Dr Barakatun Nisak Mohd Yusof

Barakatun Nisak Bt Mohd Yusof is a professor and Deputy Dean of Academic (Health Sciences) and Students' Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She is a practising dietitian specializing in metabolic obesity and diabetes. Additionally, she serves as President of the Malaysian Dietitian Association (MDA) and as a council member of the Malaysian Endocrine and Metabolic Society (MEMS), along with being the Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Society of Obesity (MYOS). Dr. Nisak earned her PhD in Dietetics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Joslin Diabetes Centre, Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on improving metabolic control and quality of life in individuals with type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and obesity. She collaborates with the Ministry of Health, industry partners, and professional associations to develop diabetes nutrition guidelines such as "Clinical Practice Guidelines for Adults with Type 2 Diabetes" and "Diabetes in Pregnancy." Notably, she initiated the Ramadan Nutrition Plan initiative for people with diabetes and received The Malaspina International Scholar Travel (MIST) Award for her work in diabetes nutrition.
