This is a quasi-experimental study; pre- and post-interventional study was conducted among overweight and obesity adult who work in JDS, HKL. The study was run for 12 weeks which involved baseline anthropometric assessment (Week 1) and post-interventional anthropometric assessment (Week 12). There were several lectures was given to the subjects from week 1 to week 8.
Results & Discussion
This study shows a weak, positive association between all anthropometric parameters changes and compliance of MHP. These twelve weeks weight reduction program significantly decreased body weight, body fat percentage and waist hip circumferences. However, the association between changes of all anthropometric parameters and compliance of MHP appeared weak. There are a number of possible explanations for this fallout. First, the competition-based (with the intention to motivate subjects) concept used would deviate objectives of the program as the subjects would just focus on accelerating weight reduction by adapting any other approaches rather than practising the taught approach. Moreover, a number of subjects have an experience of reducing weight and they may prone to follow their own method since any actions that involve calorie deficit will lead to weight reduction. Also during this program, the subjects required to send only three main meals in a day which does not describe their total intake and could also affect the rate of compliance. These could be the factors of inverse relationship between variables. MHP emphasized portion size restricted method rather than objectively educate on calorie counting per say. Thus this factor may also explained why several subjects were presented with high compliance rate despite an insignificant weight reduction.
Eating using Malaysian Healthy Plate may play a role in weight reduction. Further study with stricter method is recommended to verify the outcome.
