Digital Therapeutics to Promote Behaviour Change
Assoc Prof Dr Barakatun Nisak Mohd Yusuf Chairperson
Mr Azran Osman-Rani Speaker

Naluri is a Malaysian digital therapeutics mobile application that delivers evidence-based behavioural treatments and psychological support online to increase accessibility and effectiveness of health care for chronic conditions.  Naluri was designed to address three main challenges that exists in today’s health care system. First, chronic conditions require a continuity of professional care over long periods but a hospital or clinic setting that requires patients to return for follow-up visits is inconvenient and costly. A mobile application that provides access to health coaching online overcomes this challenge. Second, medical care for chronic conditions tend to focus only on prescriptive behavioural treatments and often neglects to provide psychological support to address motivation and resilience of patients to embed new healthy habits.

Naluri delivers health psychological support using motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural therapy that is coordinated with diet and nutrition counselling, medical and pharmaceutical advice, and workplace coaching and financial planning to address stress triggers holistically. Finally, traditional telehealth consultations are still delivered one-on-one which inherently limits the number of Malaysians that can access health coaching because of limited numbers of allied health professionals. Naluri uses digital tools to scale the productivity of psychologists, dietitians and health coaches by ten-fold using artificial intelligence based supplementary tools. Based on a structured 16-week programme, Naluri is able to deliver at least one clinically-significant health outcome (e.g., 5% weight loss, 1.0 HbA1c reduction, 10% cholesterol reduction, Depression, Anxiety and Stress reductions) for 60% of participants.
